The secret sex life of flowers.

Flowers are the most sexual organisms on the planet.

In this video Jonathan Drori talks about and beautifully illustrates how flowers have evolved very sophisticated mechanisms to insure their survivability in very competitive ways.

The photography is strikingly beautiful.

Just another example of how intricate and complex the living world is.

Dinosaurs from chickens?

Remember all those dinosaurs running around in Jurassic Park and elsewhere? Everyone seems to like dinosaurs and we’re fascinated in knowing how we could build one, just like they did in the movies.

One of America’s most renowned paleontologists is Dr. Jack Horner. Aside from being an advisor to the Jurassic Park movies, he’s working at genetically engineering living modern day descendents of the dinosaurs to make Chickenosaurus.

Watch and listen as he takes you on this journey.

After watching this, I bet you’ll never look at a chicken the same again.

Hope you  enjoyed it!

Are we ready for neo-evolution?

How would you like to be better than you are?

This is the opening statement of Dr. Harvey Fineberg in this intriguing talk about neo-evolution.

Dr. Fineberg is a medical ethicist who shows us three paths forward for the ever-evolving human species: to stop evolving completely, to evolve naturally — or to control the next steps of human evolution, using genetic modification, to make ourselves smarter, faster, better. Neo-evolution is within our grasp. What will we do with it?

Hope this gave you another view of evolution and where we could head with all the possibilities out there!

Can Skateboarding Give Us A Better Model For Teaching?

Professor Tae teaches physics at Northwestern University. I came across this video and found myself agreeing with him. He’s plain spoken and gets to the point without any flowery words.

Dr. Tae — Building A New Culture Of Teaching And Learning from Dr. Tae on Vimeo.

Hope it gets you thinking…hard.

Are We Really Reading Teachers?

As a high school biology teacher I consider myself a content area teacher. In other words, I teach biology. Content. But many administrators will tell us that we are all reading teachers.  Their misguided notion is that we can teach reading through content. Many of my colleagues have always felt that this is backwards. By teaching the content you reinforce reading.

This video by Professor Daniel Willingham of the University of Virginia drives this point home.

Your comments are welcome and encouraged.
